A Fredericksburg man was booked into Rappahannock Regional Jail after alcohol was the leading factor in a three-vehicle auto accident.

On January 27th at approximately 5:46 p.m. Deputy C.T. Richardson was traveling Northbound on Richmond Highway near Eskimo Hill Road. While traveling, he observed a GMC Sierra, traveling at a high rate of speed, crash into a Honda CR-V and a Honda Accord. The driver of the CR-V would be injured from the crash, and with the help of a witness, Deputy Richardson would get him to safety.

A third victim would come forward to provide details of what transpired prior to the crash. The third victim advised they were side swiped by the GMC Sierra which then proceeded to flee from the crash. As the GMC Sierra weaved through traffic attempting to flee, it would result in the crash Deputy Richardson witnessed. The third victim had video of this occurring.

The driver of the GMC Sierra, Alex Martinez, 41, has bloodshot eyes and was unsteady on his feet. Martinez would advise he consumed three “Small” beers at work before driving.

Martinez was charged with driving under the influence, hit and run, failure to yield, and maiming during a DUI. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail on a $3,500 secured bond. The injured driver was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Great work to Deputy Richardson for helping get another drunk driver off the road. We’d also like to thank the witness who assisted Deputy Richardson right after the crash.
