.The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Safety Unit is continuing to investigate a fatal crash which occurred yesterday morning on U.S. 1.

On June 27th at 10:41 a.m. deputies responded to a single vehicle accident in the 1400 block of U.S. 1 near M & M Auto Parts. Deputies arrived to find a 2009 Dodge Journey had left the roadway and struck a tree. The front seat passenger was unresponsive and deputies and bystanders performed CPR until medics arrived to assist. She was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The initial investigation revealed the Dodge driver was travelling northbound, suffered a medical emergency and left the roadway, impacting the tree. The 52-year-old male driver was transported to the hospital as well with serious injuries.

Unfortunately, the passenger passed away at the hospital from her injuries. She has been identified as Wilma Comuntzis, 76, of Stafford.

Deputy S.C. Martin is the lead investigator and is continuing to investigate the crash. Please keep the family and friends of Mrs. Comuntzis in your thoughts and prayers.
