Thanks to the great teamwork of Stafford deputies yesterday afternoon, a robbery suspect gave up his “Philadelphia Freedom” and is behind bars.

On May 13th at 3:08 p.m. deputies responded to the pharmacy in Giant at 550 Celebrate Virginia Parkway for a robbery. Initial information from witnesses described an armed robber jumping the counter of the pharmacy and stealing oxycodone and OxyContin. The suspect proceeded to run from the store and flee in a white Enterprise Rental van. Alert witnesses provided a description of both the suspect and the van, including a partial tag.

Deputy G.W. Motley, V was in the vicinity of the call and saw the suspect vehicle on Celebrate Virginia Parkway. He followed the suspect onto Sanford Drive as other deputies maneuvered into positions to assist.

Sergeant N. Zotos orchestrated shutting down Sanford Drive at Warrenton Road to prevent innocent motorists from entering a potentially volatile scene. Deputies prepared spike strips to deflate the suspect’s tires if he tried to flee. Pursuit vehicles were also staged nearby.

A felony stop was initiated at Sanford Drive just prior to Warrenton Road and the suspect wisely complied. He was taken into custody without incident by the joint efforts of Deputy Motley and Deputies J.C. Curtis, M.E. Gordon, C.M. Hidalgo, and A.W. Sypolt.

The suspect has been identified as Ronald Green, 31, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The van he was driving was reported stolen from Pennsylvania. Additionally, Green was wanted in Baltimore County, Maryland for robbery and theft.

Green was charged with robbery and possession of a stolen vehicle in Stafford and served a warrant of extradition for Maryland. He was held without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.
