On January 2 at 10:32 p.m., Deputy S.C. Jett was on patrol in the area of Deacon Road when he saw a vehicle fail to stop at a stop sign. The vehicle continued onto Brooke Road where it was observed driving 65mph in a 35mph zone. The deputy activated his vehicle’s emergency equipment to initiate a traffic stop. The suspect vehicle accelerated and continued driving before coming to a stop on Dogwood Drive.

Deputy Jett noticed the driver, Tyler Bober, 36, of Stafford, had glassy eyes and slurred speech. Bober refused field sobriety tests. An open container of alcoholic beverage was found inside the vehicle. Bober was arrested and placed inside a patrol vehicle.

While being transported, Bober became belligerent and began kicking the inside of the car door. Deputies opened the door and Bober attempted to kick them. Bober was restrained and deputies continued to transport him to the Sheriff’s Office. The transport was again interrupted as Bober began hitting his head on the vehicle’s glass partition. Bober remained belligerent as deputies attempted to render first aid. During the remainder of the encounter, Bober spit at deputies on two different occasions and continued to resist deputies. At one point, Bober purposefully fell to the ground, striking his head on the pavement. He was treated for his injuries and eventually transported to the Rappahannock Regional Jail where he was held without bond.

Bober was charged with driving under the influence-3rd or subsequent offense in 10 years, three counts of assault on a law enforcement officer, obstruction of justice, obstruction of justice with force, drinking while operating a motor vehicle, driving after forfeiture of license, driving revoked while under the influence, two counts of reckless driving, refusal of test, and disorderly conduct.
