To provide all fifth grade students of Stafford County who have completed the requirements of the D.A.R.E. Program an opportunity to interact with accomplished people whose good choices have helped them to become and stay successful in their careers or hobbies, while working to make their community a better place.  It is also an opportunity for the students to be made aware of the many activities and organizations available to them in our area as a healthy alternative to drugs and violence.

Stafford County DARE Day began at Winding Creek Elementary School 24 years ago as a way to celebrate the success and commitment of their young 5th graders who had pledged to stay drug and violence free.  The day was also designed to showcase a variety of careers and activities from the regions wealth of community resources that could keep young people involved in positive activities and teach a sense of community.  The hope was that by participating in activities, students would be more likely to stay focused and become involved citizens. DARE Day, now held each spring at Pratt Park, has since grown to include all 17 elementary schools in Stafford County with over 2,300 students attending annually.
