A repeat DUI driver maimed a motorcyclist in North Stafford after yet another DUI related incident. On April 17th, at approximately 9:00 p.m., Deputy W.E. Trainor and Deputy J.J. Holetzky responded to the area of Onville Road and Ebenezer Church Road for a hit and run. It was discovered a red Hyundai struck a motorcycle. Deputy Trainor made contact with the motorcyclist as additional deputies began searching for the suspect vehicle. The motorcyclist advised he was traveling towards Onville Road when the suspect vehicle began driving towards him head on. The motorcyclist attempted to avoid a crash however, was struck by the driver’s side mirror and was flung off his motorcycle. The motorcyclist was treated for his injuries as Deputy Trainor documented the crash site. The suspect vehicle’s driver’s side mirror was left at the crash site. Further down on Ebenezer Church Road, Deputy Holetzky located a red Hyundai missing its driver side mirror. Contact was made with the driver, identified as Derrick Edwards, 51, of Stafford. Edwards had signs of intoxication and admitted to consuming seven beers and two long island ice teas. Edwards further advised he left the scene of the crash due to him having a revoked license. Edwards was charged with maiming while driving under the influence, driving under the influence fourth offense within ten years, driving while revoked, driving after forfeiture of his license, and felony hit and run. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond. |
