A 40-year-old Stafford man had to be cut out of his vehicle following an extremely devastating crash that occurred Friday morning.

On February 28th at approximately 12:28 a.m. Deputy S.A. Fulford responded to the area of Ferry Road and Braddock Drive for a single vehicle auto accident. Multiple callers advised a Lexus had rolled over and was currently sitting in a ditch.

Deputy Fulford quickly arrived and discovered the vehicle in a ditch on the Northbound side, facing Southbound. There was a noticeably large debris trail from where the vehicle initially left the roadway. Bystanders were attempting to extract the driver; however, were unsuccessful due to the damages sustained. Deputy Fulford made contact with the driver and began assessing possible injuries as Fire and Rescue responded. As Deputy Fulford began caring for the driver, he noticed several signs of intoxication. The driver would admit to consuming “a good amount” of alcohol.

Fire and Rescue staff had to cut off the passenger door in order to extract the driver safely out of the vehicle. As this occurred, Deputy Fulford began investigating the crash. He would discover a bottle of vodka among the debris, the driver’s seat belt was not engaged, the vehicle had an expired inspection sticker, and there was approximately $1,000 worth of damages done to the property. Due to his injuries, the driver was transported to a nearby hospital.

Deputy Fulford would obtain charges for driving under the influence, reckless driving, failure to wear a seatbelt, and having an expired inspection. Despite his charges, the driver is lucky to be alive due to the severity of the crash. If you plan to drink, plan ahead and have a sober ride.
