Four adults and one juvenile were found to be up to no good after deputies noticed suspicious behaviors Friday night.

On February 7th at approximately 11:35 p.m. Sergeant B.U. Demirci and Deputy I.E. Baldi were patrolling in the area of Washington Square Plaza when they observed a Mercedes Benz. This Mercedes caught their attention due to it swerving and making jerky movements. A traffic stop was conducted at the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, located at 21 Cool Springs Road.

Deputies made contact with the two occupants in the front and three in the back. Despite the vehicle being tightly packed, no one could provide a coherent story as to what they were up to other than they came from Baltimore to visit someone for only “20 minutes” before beginning their trip back to Baltimore. The driver would also display common signs of being under the influence, including glassy, bloodshot eyes. Deputy N.J. Amato would respond to conduct field sobriety tests as Sergeant Demirci and Deputy Baldi continued their investigation on what really was occurring.

Due to the odd behavior coming from the passengers, and a K-9 alert on the vehicle, probable cause was established to search the vehicle. In the cramped rear, deputies located a bag filled with numerous burglary tools, including ski masks and a firearm. All occupants were detained as a result.

The occupants were identified as Carlos Guevara-Figueroa, 19, of Maryland, Moises Suarez Rivera, 19, of Maryland, Irving Campos, 25, of Maryland, Jefferson Rivas Madrid, 18, with no affixed address, and a 16-year-old male. Each adult was charged with possession of burglary tools and held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond. The driver, Guevara-Figueroa, was additionally charged with driving under the influence and the traffic lane violation. A criminal complaint for possession of burglary tools was submitted for the juvenile. Juvenile Intake was notified; however, declined to detain the juvenile and he was released.

Great work to deputies for not only locating another DUI driver, but removing yet another firearm from the streets of Stafford.
