An intoxicated 46-year-old Stafford man received felony charges after leaving a trail of breadcrumbs for deputies to follow at a hit and run. On February 1st at approximately 10:41 p.m. Deputy W.E Trainor responded to Acadia Street for a hit and run. The victim advised she was sitting at the traffic light for the Richmond Highway intersection when a Nissan crossed into her lane and struck her head on. The Nissan would quickly leave the scene. The victim and one of her passengers received minor injuries and were transported to a local hospital to be treated. A perimeter was established in an attempt to locate a Nissan with front end damage as Deputy Trainor continued to investigate the scene of the crash. There, he would locate evidence to help identify the suspect and the suspect vehicle. One of these pieces of evidence was a license plate. Deputies responded to the registered owner’s residence and located not only the damaged Nissan missing its license plate, but the suspect driver, identified as Kwame Boakya Yiadom. Yiadom had noticeable signs of intoxication including the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath. Yiadom would attempt to steer the conversation away from any wrongdoings by asking deputies if they had “the wrong house” and even inquired if deputies wanted to buy the damaged Nissan. Deputies declined and instead placed him under arrest. During the blood draw by a certified phlebotomist, Yiadom would physically resist. Yiadom was charged with driving under the influence, maiming while driving under the influence, felony hit and run, as well as, obstruction of justice. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond. |
