Deputies were wished “good luck” responding to a loud disturbance that ended with a deputy being assaulted.

On January 26th at approximately 4:34 a.m. deputies responded to the Sleep Inn Motel, located at 595 Warrenton Road, for a disturbance. Multiple reporting parties advised they could hear “blood curdling screams” coming from a certain room.

When Deputies arrived, they made their way to the room in question. While doing so, a bystander wished them “good luck” in dealing with the disturbance. Outside the room in question, deputies heard arguing and attempted to make contact with the individuals inside. All of a sudden, both parties went quiet as if they were pretending to not be home. This plan would fail to work. Deputies were able to unlock the door using a master key when they were met with resistance from the male party who was attempting to keep the door shut. Out of concern for the female party, deputies detained the male despite his resistance.

It was discovered both parties were intoxicated, arguing, and assaulted each other. There was also a protective order between the two. Both were transported to the magistrate’s office in hopes that the other guests could finally sleep in the Sleep Inn. While at the magistrate’s office, the female party would continue to cause a disturbance, assault a deputy and attempt to bite him, as well as, assault a jail officer. Neither the deputy or jail officer were seriously injured.

The 24-year-old male was charged with disorderly conduct, obstruction of justice, assault and battery, as well as, violating a protective order. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail on a $5,000 secured bond. The 19-year-old female was charged with disorderly conduct, obstruction of justice, assault and battery, as well as, two counts of assault and battery on either law enforcement or jail officers. A bond hearing could not be conducted due to her “disruptive behavior,” so she was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail pending her ability to participate in a bond hearing.
