A 35-year-old Stafford man was arrested for DUI and a host of other offenses after a Wednesday evening traffic stop in Aquia Harbour. On January 22nd, as the sun descended and Stafford County residents were snuggled in their homes avoiding the frigid outdoor temperatures, the brave deputies of Patrol Squad B-3 were patrolling the streets to ensure law and order. At 8:55 p.m. an Aquia Harbour Officer conducted a traffic stop in the 2100 block of Aquia Drive for a suspected intoxicated driver. The sudden crackle of the portable radio and garbled radio transmission indicated to Stafford County Deputies that this traffic stop had spiraled to another level. The uncooperative and intoxicated driver, identified as Devon Mulgrew, refused to exit his vehicle and was rummaging through the glove box. The Aquia Harbour Officer was able to remove Mulgrew from the vehicle and handcuff him on the ground nearby. Sergeant M.L. Jacobeen arrived and assisted Mulgrew into the back of a police car as Mulgrew continued to caterwaul. Mulgrew was subsequently charged with DUI, possession of a controlled substance, obstruction, possession of controlled paraphernalia, refusal, a traffic lane violation, and a traffic sign violation. He compounded his troubles when he assaulted a deputy at the Magistrate’s Office. Mulgrew was additionally charged with assault and battery on law enforcement and held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond. Drive sober or get pulled over. |
