A Stafford woman, too focused on obtaining her soda, earned her second DUI after attempting to walk away from a traffic stop.

On January 13th at approximately 1:46 a.m. Deputy D.S. Jett was traveling on White Oak Road. While doing so, he observed the vehicle in front of him making jerky movements as it had a hard time maintaining the lane of travel. Due to his extensive knowledge of DUI driving behaviors, Deputy Jett concluded that this could be yet another DUI driver.

Deputy Jett would attempt to conduct a traffic stop at 7-Eleven, located at 324 White Oak Road. While the vehicle came to a stop in the parking lot, the driver would immediately make her way towards the business. After Deputy Jett explained one does not simply walk away from a traffic stop, the driver requested to leave and grab a Coke. Her request to once again walk away was denied.

The driver possessed no valid driver’s license, had signs of intoxication, and insisted she had “none” to drink. Her answer later changed that she consumed beer prior to getting behind the wheel. When the topic of field sobriety tests came around, the driver advised she would “absolutely” participate.

Her enthusiasm would quickly fade away as she unleashed a barrage of insults towards Deputy Jett after the tests. The driver, Tiffany Diaz, 34, of Stafford, was charged with driving under the influence second offense within five years, driving without a license, two counts of refusal, and failure to maintain the lane of travel. Her Coke run would have to wait, for she was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail on a $2,000 secured bond.

Drive sober or get pulled over.
