In another example of places you can’t park, deputies located a DUI driver after he crashed into the woods and attempted to walk it off.

On December 8th at approximately 8:15 p.m. Sergeant B.U. Demirci, Deputy K.P. Hall, and Deputy C.D. Quebedeaux responded to Leeland Road for an auto accident. The caller advised a vehicle crashed in front of her residence and the driver was missing.

Deputies arrived and located the vehicle off the roadway. While the driver elected not to stick around, the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from the vehicle still remained. Following the odor, deputies located an open container inside the vehicle. With all the makings of a DUI, all that was left was to locate the driver.

While in the area, Sergeant Demirci would locate the registered owner of the poorly parked Honda. During their interaction, the registered owner admitted to not only being the driver, causing the crash, and going for a brisk walk afterwards, but he would also admit to “drinking a lot.” Enough to black out while behind the wheel. While the registered owner was concerned about the condition of his vehicle, he should have been more concerned about driving sober.

The 55-year-old driver was charged with driving under the influence with a blood alcohol content above .2, as well as, drinking while driving. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail on a $2,000 secured bond.
