A repeat DUI driver received another DUI charge after a hit and run in North Stafford.

On November 24th at approximately 4:02 p.m., Deputy S.T. Myers and Deputy X.D. Bates responded to the 800 block of Garrisonville Road for a hit and run. The driver of a Toyota advised another Toyota rear-ended him, causing damage. While the victim pulled over, the suspect did not and continued southbound.

The victim provided deputies a good description of the suspect and his vehicle, including the suspect’s long hair and beard. As deputies canvassed the area, Deputy Myers would observe a Toyota matching the suspect vehicle’s description at 7-Eleven, located at 2337 Garrisonville Road. The Toyota not only had damage consistent with the hit and run, but the driver perfectly matched the suspect’s description.

The driver, Christopher Berthelette, 33, of Stafford, had signs of intoxication and admitted to consuming alcohol prior to getting behind the wheel. It was discovered Berthelette not only had a prior DUI, but his license was revoked due to it.

Berthelette was charged with driving under the influence second offense within five to ten years, hit and run, revocation of his license for multiple driving while intoxicated convictions, reckless driving, driving after forfeiture of his license, and second offense refusal. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.

Drive sober or get pulled over.
