Staff at a local business were able to dime out two individuals during their attempted larceny Saturday night.

On November 23rd at approximately 8:18 p.m., Deputy R.A. Kehoe responded to Symphony of Suds, located at 10 Smokehouse Drive, for a larceny. Staff advised two individuals were seen on surveillance cameras breaking into the self-service machine to steal money.

Deputies began searching the area and located both suspects behind the Goodwill, located at 736 Warrenton Road. The suspects, Dakota Hilliard, 19, of Stafford, and a 17-year-old suspect were detained without incident. Hilliard was found to be in possession of a lock picking set, and currency stolen from the business. Hilliard admitted to using the lock picking set in an attempt to steal money despite that fact he “didn’t expect to get much.” The grand total of his larceny was $2.26.

Hilliard was charged with larceny, attempted destruction of property, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and possession of burglary tools. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail on a $3,000 secured bond. The juvenile received criminal complaints for larceny and attempted destruction of property. He was released to the care of a family member.
