A repeat shoplifter received a felony charge in her not so grand escape on Garrisonville Road. On November 10th at approximately 6:26 p.m. Sergeant M.L. Jacobeen and Deputy S. Waheed responded to Walmart, located at 217 Garrisonville Road, for a shoplifting. Staff advised a female, known to have a few shoplifting offenses under her belt, was back at it. Deputy Waheed made contact with staff to rewind the tape as Sergeant Jacobeen canvassed the nearby area. It wouldn’t take Sergeant Jacobeen long to find a female who matched the description provided walking away from the business. Upon making contact with the suspect, she quickly denied stealing anything. At first, she would refuse to provide her identity, but eventually identified herself as the daughter of baseball hall of famer, Hank Aaron. For obvious reasons, that lie didn’t work. She was eventually identified as Janice Scott, 61, of Stafford. Scott was discovered to have shoplifted twice in October. On this day, she was found in possession of stolen meat, cheese, and crackers. Her charcuterie board would be placed on hold for she was charged with three counts of shoplifting, felony second offense identity theft to avoid arrest, providing a false identity to law enforcement, and unlawful name change. She was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail on a $2,000 secured bond. |
