An incident that was first reported as a pedestrian being struck changed over the course of the investigation, resulting in the arrest of a 29-year-old Woodbridge man. On November 8th at approximately 6:32 p.m. Deputy R.L. Hubbard responded to the 3000 block of Richmond Highway for a pedestrian struck. The caller advised he was just hit by a passing vehicle. Deputy Hubbard made contact with the subject to determine what occurred. He advised while walking along the roadway a white SUV swerved and struck his arm. After a brief conversation with the driver, the subject advised she drove off. Deputy Hubbard would observe signs of intoxication while conversing with the subject. As she did, the driver called into the Sheriff’s Office to provide her account of the incident. The driver advised while traveling her passenger mirror was struck, breaking it. When she pulled over, the subject informed her his walking stick was hit and demanded money as compensation. The subject would then take two 100 bills from the driver. Due to her being scared, the victim would drive off after the incident. With this new information, Deputy Hubbard confronted the subject about the allegation. While he would deny it at first, he was found in possession of just under $200. It was also discovered the subject recently purchased cigarettes using a $100 bill, explaining the current money in his possession. The subject, Trent Hocog, was charged with destruction of property, felony stealing property from a person, and public intoxication. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail on a $5,000 secured bond. |
