An off-duty deputy played a bit of I Spy to help make an arrest of a wanted Woodbridge man. I spy with my little eye, a man with Fairfax warrants. On November 6th at approximately 6:56 p.m. Deputy X.D. Bates was off duty in the area of Campus Drive. While enjoying his time off, he observed Aaron Byrd, 48. Deputy Bates instantly recognized Byrd from a recent wanted poster. Byrd was wanted out of Fairfax for two felony warrants. I spy with my little eye, deputy cruisers. Due to Deputy Bates being extremely vigilant Deputy K.W. Suter and Deputy D.A. Robertson would respond to the area. Once there, they would confirm Byrd’s identity and detain him. When they detained him, Byrd was in possession of a backpack. I spy with my little eye, controlled substances. Once the Fairfax warrants were confirmed deputies conducted a search incident to arrest. Within his backpack deputies located suspected controlled substances, and a lot of it. Controlled paraphernalia was also located within the bag. I spy with my little eye, Rappahannock Regional Jail. Byrd was charged with three counts of possession of controlled substances, possession with intent to distribute controlled substances, and possession of controlled paraphernalia. He was also served on his outstanding warrants and held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond. I spy with my little eye, amazing work. Amazing work to not only Deputy Suter and Deputy Robertson for removing suspected controlled substances from the streets, but to Deputy Bates for remaining committed to excellence even in his off time.
