A simple fender bender Saturday afternoon resulted in the arrest of a 34-year-old Stafford woman after numerous suspected controlled substances were located.

On October 19th at approximately 3:10 p.m. Deputy J.A. Albright responded to the area of Shelton Shop Road and Courthouse Road for an auto accident. The victim was rear ended by a Ford, causing minor damage. During the usual information exchange stage, the victim noticed the suspect was “acting odd, like she was on drugs.”

While dealing with the auto accident, and a potential DUI incident, the suspect driver, identified as Rachel Baltzell, requested to leave. That request was denied as Deputy Albright noticed several signs of intoxication, including pinpoint pupils. After conducting field sobriety tests, Baltzell was detained. During a search incident to arrest, Baltzell was found to be in possession of a needle and suspected controlled substances. When asked if there was anything else deputies should be aware of, Baltzell advised “no, I know better” and “I don’t want to catch more charges.”

Despite not wanting to catch more charges, that would be the outcome. At the jail, a more in-depth search was conducted. There, additional suspected controlled substances and a pipe were found on her person. She was charged with three counts of possession of controlled substances, possession of paraphernalia, and driving under the influence. She was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.
