A 22-year-old Woodbridge man bearing a baseball bat went on a rampage in a South Stafford residence resulting in his quick detention.

On October 14th at approximately 5:35 p.m. deputies responded to Morton Road for a breaking and entering report. The reporting party advised a male, wearing a white shirt as an impromptu mask, broke into a residence and began destroying numerous things. The suspect was seen leaving the area in a black Nissan sedan with tinted windows, no front license plate, and missing all of its hub caps.

As Deputy D.S. Jett responded to the residence, Deputy W.A. Bolinsky began searching for the suspect vehicle. With the unique description, Deputy Bolinsky was able to locate the suspect vehicle at Valero, located at 620 Cambridge Street. The driver was detained and when Deputy I.E. Baldi arrived, she began working on identifying him.

Meanwhile, Deputy Jett arrived at the residence and discovered the residence in complete ruin. The sofa was separated into three pieces, all glass items were shattered including the walk-in shower, shelves had been ripped off the wall, and plants were scattered across the floor. A safe was also discovered to be empty. Deputy Jett made contact with the reporting party to discover what unfolded. She advised she was in the shower when the suspect broke into the residence. The suspect, wielding a black and yellow baseball bat, warned the reporting party he was there to break things and began to do just that. The reporting party was able to hide in a closet and made a call for help. Eventually, the suspect left.

Contact was made with the homeowner and victim. The victim advised the only thing stolen was cash from the safe. The victim and suspect were known to each other and it was advised this rampage was a result from a previous larceny allegation.

The detained driver was identified as Marvin Ssettumba. Ssettumba was found to be in possession of the stolen cash, and a black and yellow baseball bat was located within the vehicle.

Ssettumba was charged with breaking and entering with intent to commit a felony, felony destruction of property, and larceny. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.
