A 59-year-old Maryland woman had a surprise wake up call by deputies after falling asleep behind the wheel. On September 9th at approximately 1:32 p.m. Deputy J.E. Alford and Deputy J.E. Cordes responded to a drunk driver complaint. The caller advised a vehicle was parked at the traffic light on Kings Highway in front of the Sheetz with an unconscious driver. When deputies arrived, they observed the vehicle in park with the driver still asleep and her foot on the accelerator. When the driver woke up from her nap, she was rather surprised deputies were there. She would attempt to hide a paper bag containing mini-bottles of Goldschlager; however, her sleight of hand wasn’t as good as she thought it was. The driver had signs of intoxication and a history of driving under the influence. It was discovered she had traveled from La Plata Maryland, to Stafford, nearly 43 miles under the influence. The driver was charged with driving under the influence second offense within five years, and third offense refusal in 10 years. She was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond. |
