A 17-year-old assumed that he had a better chance outrunning deputies than facing a traffic ticket. Considering this is Stafford County, he assumed wrong.

On September 2nd at approximately 8:14 p.m. Deputy K.W. Suter was in the area of Richmond Highway and Acadia Street finishing up a traffic stop. Despite his emergency equipment still active, a Kia blew past him traveling 94 MPH in a 45 MPH zone. Deputy Suter gave chase as the Kia took an abrupt turn onto Kings Crest Drive, kicking off a pursuit.

As nearby deputies began to saturate the area, Deputy Suter lost sight of the vehicle, but only for a moment. He located the Kia on Park Ridge Court, for it crashed into an unattended vehicle. The driver had fled on foot and deputies set up a perimeter.

With the vehicle in their possession, deputies were able to quickly identify the suspect driver. Deputy T.G. Croson would observe the suspect strutting along Meadow View Court and was able to detain him without incident. When asked why he ran, the driver advised he was “already committed to the speed” and thought his chances were better if he fled. The only chances that got better were the chances of him facing several serious offenses.

Criminal complaints for felony eluding, hit and run, as well as, reckless driving were submitted. Juvenile intake was contacted and decided to detain him. He was held at the Juvenile Detention Center.
