75 in a 35

While Sammy Hagar can’t drive 55, a Stafford man attempted to go above that in front of a deputy Saturday morning.

On August 31st at approximately 3:00 a.m. First Sergeant M.R. Flick was traveling Westbound on Garrisonville Road in the area of Stafford Market Place. While doing so, he observed a Mazda having a hard time staying in its lane as it accelerated to 75 MPH in a 35 MPH zone. It would nearly strike another vehicle before responding to First Sergeant Flicks emergency equipment and began to come to a stop in the Exxon parking lot, located at 280 Garrisonville Road. In his attempt to park, the driver struck a pole surrounding a gas pump.

First Sergeant Flick, now accompanied by Deputy P.J. Leon, made contact with the driver. The driver had the overwhelming odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his person. Within the vehicle were a number of empty Michelob Ultra cans. The driver would admit to consuming three beers; however, later changed his answer to five. Despite that, he advised he “was fine.” Deputies thought otherwise. It was also discovered he had a previous DUI in 2022, and his license was suspended.

The driver was charged with driving under the influence second offense within five years, reckless driving, second offense refusal, driving while suspended, drinking while driving, and failure to maintain the lane of travel. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.

Drive sober or get pulled over.
