A Colonial Beach man attempted to blame his drunken driving on other drivers after striking two vehicles late last night.

On August 22nd at approximately 9:12 p.m. Deputy X.D. Bates responded to the area of Garrisonville Road and Salisbury Drive for an auto accident. It was advised three vehicles were involved. When Deputy Bates arrived on scene he was informed the at fault driver fled on foot.

Luckily, witnesses got a good look at the suspect driver before he stumbled off into the night. With their description, Deputy Bates was able to locate the still stumbling suspect near Mine Road. He was detained and during a show up, witnesses confirmed he was the driver.

The driver was identified as Jonathan Galvan Velasco, 39. Velasco had signs of intoxication, admitted to being the driver they were looking for, and admitted to consuming three or four drinks prior to driving. He would also attempt to defer blame to the other drivers involved; however, it would not work. Within the vehicle was an open container of alcohol. It was discovered Velasco had a revoked license due to a prior DUI last year.

Velasco was charged with driving under the influence second offense within five years, driving while revoked, felony hit and run, misdemeanor hit and run, drinking while driving, and following too closely. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail on a $5,000 secured bond.
