A 26-year-old Stafford man who was too impatient to wait for a green light added to his list of charges after attempting to flee from a Stafford Sergeant.

On August 17th at approximately 11:35 p.m. Sergeant M.L. Jacobeen was Westbound on Courthouse Road near the I-95 entrance ramp when he observed a Nissan travel through a red light. Sergeant Jacobeen would activate his emergency equipment and attempt a traffic stop at the next traffic light. While the driver stopped at this red light, he would not stay. As soon as Sergeant Jacobeen exited his vehicle, the driver continued on.

Sergeant Jacobeen would pursue the vehicle as Deputy J.J. Holetzky responded to assist. The driver would attempt aggressive evasive maneuvers. After realizing those tricks would not work on Stafford deputies, the driver gave up and turned into the McDonald’s parking lot, located at 900 Wonder Road. It was discovered the driver had a suspended license, signs of intoxication, and suspected controlled substances within his vehicle.

The driver, Ellis Murdaugh, was charged with driving under the influence second offense within five to ten years, second offense refusal, possession with intent to distribute, eluding police, driving with a suspended license, a traffic lane violation, and failure to obey a traffic light. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.
