A 41-year-old driver ended up in the rough after his drive wasn’t as solid as he hoped.

On August 10th at approximately 4:30 p.m. Deputy R.W. Stamm responded to the area of Courthouse Road and Shelton Shop Road for an auto accident. Callers advised a truck was off the roadway and the driver seemed intoxicated.

When Deputy Stamm arrived, he located a Dodge Ram partly in the Eastbound lanes facing Westbound. One witness came forward and advised he observed the Ram speeding before swerving off the road and striking a fence. After destroying part of the fence, the Ram would swerve back onto the roadway before merging into oncoming traffic. After coming to a stop, the witness checked on the driver and advised he could smell the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage.

The driver had signs of intoxication and admitted to consuming alcohol while playing golf at a local golf course. It was discovered before departing the golf course, the suspect struck an unoccupied vehicle in the parking lot.

The driver was charged with driving under the influence, as well as, hit and run. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail until sober.
