A Woodbridge man attempted to elude deputies on Friday evening, but a tire deflation device and intentional vehicle contact ended his reckless mission.

On August 9th at 6:30 p.m. First Sergeant W.T. Johnson observed a reckless driver in a light blue Toyota Camry headed southbound on Cambridge Street. A traffic stop was attempted and the driver briefly stopped in the parking lot at the intersection of Cambridge Street and Truslow Road. After feigning compliance, the suspect accelerated from the parking lot and headed northbound on Cambridge Street.

The suspect reached speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour as First Sergeant Johnson updated his location to other deputies . Deputies C.R. Newman and S.A. Fulford awaited the pursuit with spike strips in hand near the Cavalier Family Skating Center. Their patience paid off and they delivered a successful deployment, puncturing all four of the suspect’s tires.

The pursuit continued with a right turn onto eastbound Hospital Center Boulevard, but the suspect had to slow as his tires rapidly deflated. As the suspect reached Courthouse Road, Sergeant J.T. Forman conducted a PIT maneuver which proved to be the coup de grace for the pursuit.

The incapacitated Camry came to rest along the curb in the 1600 block of Courthouse Road and a high-risk stop was performed. Just like that, the pursuit was ended faster than the Washington Commander’s playoff hopes. The driver was taken into custody and identified as Antonio Williamson, 27. Williamson was charged with felony eluding, reckless driving and DUI. He was held without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.

Excellent teamwork by the deputies to safely end this pursuit.
