A reckless U-Turn left four victims injured and one 24-year-old Stafford man behind bars Saturday afternoon.

On August 3rd at approximately 3:29 p.m. Deputy J.E. Cordes responded to the intersection of Chatham Heights Road and Kings Highway for multiple calls regarding an auto accident. It was discovered a Jeep Wrangler attempted a U-Turn on the Chatham Bridge and struck a Honda Civic.

The four occupants within the Honda received non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital. It was advised that immediately after the crash, the driver of the Jeep drove towards the wood line before exiting his vehicle and fleeing on foot into the woods. Within the still running Jeep, Deputy Cordes located purchase paperwork for the vehicle and a cell phone, both belonging to Antonio Mascorro.

Deputies set up a perimeter in an attempt to locate Mascorro. This would pay off, for he was observed in the area of Naomi Road and detained by Deputy S.A. Hensley. Mascorro admitted that he fled the scene due to the vehicle being uninsured. That being said, he would claim to not be the driver and instead blamed the crash on a man named Jesus. After conversing with witnesses, it was discovered Jesus did not take the wheel and Mascorro was in fact the driver.

Mascorro was charged with felony hit and run with personal injuries, reckless driving, driving while suspended, conducting an illegal U-Turn, having expired registration, and operating an uninsured vehicle. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.
