Two suspects were detained after a bungled burglary and miscalculated escape attempt in North Stafford Wednesday afternoon.

On July 31st at 5:38 p.m. deputies responded to a report of a breaking and entering in Garrison Woods. As Deputy B.E. Vaughn arrived, he observed two suspects in front of a damaged apartment door. The suspects began to walk away and ignored the order to stop. The suspects then began running, but were clearly unfamiliar with the area. The foot pursuit went around an apartment building, across the playground and ended as the suspects reached the fenced area near the retention pond and were effectively corralled. The suspects were identified as a juvenile and an 18-year-old male from Woodbridge.

The investigation revealed the juvenile suspect had repeatedly kicked the apartment door and caused significant damage. During the kicking, the suspect had his shoe become lodged in between the door and the door frame. Much like Cinderella, he left the shoe behind in his ill-fated escape attempt. The shoe on the juvenile suspect’s foot was a dead ringer for the shoe in the door.

Juvenile Intake was contacted, but declined to detain the juvenile suspect. He was released to a parent and faces charges of breaking and entering, vandalism, assault and obstruction. The 18-year-old suspect was charged with obstruction and held at the Rappahannock regional Jail on a $1,000 bond.
