A 66-year-old Manassas woman was driving intoxicated when she veered into oncoming traffic and struck a deputy head on.

On April 30th at approximately 10:29 p.m. Deputy B.E. Vaughn was traveling Eastbound on Garrisonville Road across the Jessica Chaney Bridge. As he was doing so, he observed a vehicle traveling Westbound in the Eastbound lanes coming directly at him. Deputy Vaughn activated his emergency equipment in order to get the driver to stop; however, instead the driver collided with his vehicle head on. Luckily, neither Deputy Vaughn or the suspect driver were injured.

The driver advised she couldn’t remember what happened or how she ended up in Stafford County. She had notable signs of intoxication, including the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from her breath. While at first she denied consuming alcohol, she would later change her story stating she had “a little” bit of wine. A little bit can go a long way, considering she also had a DUI incident in Culpeper four months ago.

The driver was charged with driving under the influence second offense within five years, reckless driving, and failure to drive on the right side of the road. She was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.
