Parking in a handicap spot led to a felony charge after a wanted Woodbridge man escalated a simple situation.

On November 16th at approximately 8:19 p.m. a deputy was investigating an unrelated matter at 7-Eleven, located at 1036 Warrenton Road. While there, the deputy observed a vehicle parked in a handicap parking spot. With no indication of a handicap placard, the deputy did some digging and discovered the driver to be Alhagi Conteh, 29, who was wanted for failure to appear.

The deputy made contact with Conteh who advised he parks in handicap spots “all the time” because he wanted to run in the store “real quick”. Real quick or real long, the law is the law and Conteh’s active warrant wasn’t going away. Conteh was placed under arrest when he became rather disruptive. While in the deputy’s vehicle, he began kicking the door. When the deputy instructed him to stop, Conteh instead continued and spat on the deputy.

Conteh was charged with destruction of property, assault and battery on law enforcement, and for illegally parking in a handicap spot. He was also served on his outstanding warrant. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail on only a $2,000 secured bond.
