A 31-year-old Stafford man nearly crashed his vehicle with his children inside after drinking too much at a Halloween party.

On October 28th at approximately 3:15 p.m. Deputies J.E. Cordes and C.C. Lee responded to the intersection of Butler Road and Chatham Heights Road for a report of a vehicle driving erratically. The vehicle would suddenly stop in one of the travel lanes and a female passenger was attempting to get the driver out of the vehicle.

When deputies arrived, they located the passenger still attempting to pull the unresponsive driver out of the vehicle while two children were in the backseat. When the driver, George Hill, woke up, he had clear signs of being intoxicated. He advised he drank “a lot of mixed drinks” during a Halloween party. After field sobriety tests, Hill was quickly placed in handcuffs.

He was charged with driving under the influence with a blood alcohol content above .2 with children present, and two counts of child neglect. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail on a $8,000 secured bond. The female passenger was determined to be sober and was allowed to drive the children away from the scene.
