Recently, many Stafford residents have been receiving calls from someone posing as Sheriff’s Office personnel. These fake deputies inform the victim there are federal warrants out for their arrest, and the only way to not be arrested is to pay. The scammers are spoofing their phone numbers so it appears the Sheriff’s Office is actually calling the victim directly.

The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office will never ask for money over the phone. Whether you receive a call from a made up deputy, or someone posing as a deputy you know, never send money to someone over the phone.
