Sergeant E.E. West once again took another drunk driver off Stafford’s roads late Sunday night and discovered a young child within the vehicle.

On August 20th at approximately 10:29 p.m. Sergeant West responded to the area of Richmond Highway and Aquia Town Center for a report of a possible drunk driver. The caller advised a vehicle was speeding, swerving, and nearly struck a motorcycle. Due to the caller’s updates on the vehicle, Sergeant West had no trouble locating it near Acadia Street where she also observed it failing to maintain the lane of travel.

Sergeant West conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle at Company 10 Fire Station and made contact with the driver. Not only was there a driver, but a six-year-old within the vehicle. The driver, identified as David Kamara, 40, of Maryland, had glassy, red eyes, slurred speech, and the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath. Despite having “a couple of drinks”, Kamara stated he was “fine” and did “nothing wrong”.

The fact that something wrong did occur would be evident due to the charges. Kamara was charged with felony child endangerment, driving under the influence, refusal, and failure to maintain the lane of travel. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond while the child was turned over to a parent.

Drive sober or get pulled over.
