Drunk Driver Call

Our deputies are so dedicated they’ll work even when they’re not on the clock. An off-duty deputy uncovered a second offense drunk driver Sunday afternoon.

On August 13th at approximately 3:29 p.m. one of our deputies was enjoying his day off when he observed something way too familiar. The vehicle in front of him was swerving all over the road. The off-duty deputy called dispatch and provided live updates until a uniformed officer could arrive. That assistance appeared in the form of Deputy B.M. Taylor.

Deputy Taylor conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle at the intersection of Ferry Road and Kings Highway. Despite the fact the 28-year-old driver was actively eating Doritos, Deputy Taylor smelled the overwhelming odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath. The driver advised he had “a little bit” to drink, which was more than none and therefore not a great answer. Located within the vehicle were multiple cans of beer, many of which were open and in close proximity of the driver.

The driver was charged with driving under the influence second offense in five years, drinking while driving, and failure to properly display his license plate. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail on a $1,500 secured bond.

Great work to Deputy Taylor and the off-duty deputy for taking a repeat drunk driver off the roadway.
