An intoxicated 31-year-old Maryland man found himself in a bit of trouble after threatening to shoot staff at a local bar. Luckily, deputies were quick to the scene and prevented a serious incident.

On August 13th at approximately 12:53 a.m. First Sergeant A.I. Assur, Deputy T.G. Croson, Deputy S. Waheed, and Deputy A.T. Leckemby responded to an urgent call at Jay’s Sports Lounge, located at 2866 Richmond Highway. The caller advised there was a man with a gun who was threatening to shoot a security guard. Deputies arrived on scene and quickly located the suspect, who showed signs of being heavily intoxicated.

Due to the nature of the call, deputies attempted to detain the suspect. The suspect was not a fan and began resisting. With the persuading words of First Sergeant Assur, the suspect began complying enough to conduct a pat-down, where Deputy Waheed located a concealed firearm on his person.

It was discovered the suspect and a security guard had a verbal disagreement which resulted in the security guard escorting the suspect out of the bar. When the suspect was informed he was not welcome back at the bar, he threatened to shoot the security guard. The suspect briefly left the area, but soon returned with a firearm.

The suspect continued his arguing, yelling, and combative behavior all the way to the magistrate. He was arrested for public intoxication, reckless handling of a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, and obstruction of justice. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.

Great work to every deputy involved for your quick response to a potentially dangerous situation.
