A verbal disagreement on Ferry Road could have ended much worse when a 63-year-old Stafford man decided to add a firearm to the mix.

On August 3rd at approximately 12:02 p.m. deputies responded to the 500 block of Ferry Road for a report of a disturbance with a weapon. The caller, and victim, advised the suspect shot a gun during a disturbance. While on the phone with communications officers, another struggle began and deputies quickly responded to the address.

By the time deputies arrived, the victim was able to flee to a neighboring house. Out of an abundance of caution, the road was shut down and citizens were asked to shelter in place as deputies made contact with the suspect, who was still within the residence. After seeing the multitude of deputies outside the residence, the suspect exited and was taken into custody without further incident.

It was discovered the suspect and victim got into a verbal disagreement over rent. The conversation escalated when the suspect, identified as Glenn Conner, retrieved a firearm and brandished it towards the victim. A struggle ensued over the shotgun, during which, the gun went off. Luckily, no one was injured from the shot.

Conner sustained minor injuries from the struggle and was treated at the hospital. He was charged with two counts of brandishing a firearm, assault and battery, reckless handling of a firearm, and shooting into an occupied dwelling. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.
