“Alright, you got me”. A man wanted out of multiple jurisdictions couldn’t hide, or run from Stafford County deputies Wednesday afternoon.

On June 21st at approximately 3:12 p.m. Deputy T.G. Croson, Deputy B.W. Gildea, Deputy J.M. Smihal, as well as, Deputy D.R. Ludolph were on Warrenton Road when they received rather important information. They were informed Chad Smith, 41, would be traveling on Warrenton Road near the Olde Forge neighborhood. Smith was wanted out of Stafford and Fredericksburg for possession of controlled substances, and failure to appear, as well as, in Spotsylvania for failure to appear.

With this knowledge, deputies prepared for the suspect vehicle to arrive in the area. Mere minutes later, the suspect vehicle appeared like magic turning onto Short Street. After witnessing the suspect within the vehicle, deputies moved in to conduct a traffic stop at Exxon, located at 375 Warrenton Road. Within seconds of stopping, the passenger door flew open and out came running Smith. Deputy Gildea and Deputy Ludolph gave chase to the fleeing suspect as Deputy Croson and Deputy Smihal stayed with the driver, who was smart enough not to flee.

Smith crossed Warrenton Road and headed towards the Red Roof Inn. He poorly attempted to jump over a guardrail, when Deputy Gildea was able to stop him in his tracks. Smith was placed into custody without further incident while remarking “alright, you got me”.

Smith was located with suspected controlled substances and paraphernalia, adding more possession charges to his ever-growing list. Smith was charged with possession of controlled substances, possession of paraphernalia, and fleeing from law enforcement. While it took a long time to get through all the paperwork, he was served on all his outstanding warrants as well. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond. The driver faced no charges.

Great work to all four deputies involved in catching yet another wanted individual.
