On June 12th at approximately 1:28 p.m., Deputy D.J. Ferrell responded to yet another scam where the scammer was impersonating law enforcement. The victim advised she received a call from someone pretending to be a deputy with the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office. The fake deputy advised she had missed jury duty and the only way to not be arrested was to pay a fine over the phone. The suspect then provided a Zelle account for her to transfer money to. When Deputy Ferrell called the suspect number, the voicemail advised it was the Stafford County Sheriff’s Civil Division.

The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office will not request money over the phone, especially through third party apps. If you receive a call like this, hang up immediately, and contact the Sheriff’s Office.
