Three suspects were charged yesterday after a brazen attempt to steal snack foods from a local convenience store. On December 11th at 10:38 p.m. First Sergeant M.R. Flick was in the Sheetz at 15 Wyche Road when he noticed three subjects in the chip aisle acting suspiciously. Since the subjects were aware law enforcement was in the store, First Sergeant Flick believed the subjects would do the right thing and pay for their chips and other snacks. Unfortunately, that chip had sailed. First Sergeant Flick must have been left wondering if there was a triple dog dare involved or the group was just feely salty, as the trio fled the store on foot with the stolen snack foods. The First Sergeant quickly broadcasted a lookout over the radio for the three suspects. Deputy J.C. Thomas had just left the Ford T. Humphrey Public Safety Building, kept his eyes peeled, and was in a prime position to intercept the refreshment robbers. The chips (and suspects) barely made it off the old block and were detained about a block away. The snack stealers were identified and the nipped nibbles were seized as evidence. Two of the suspects were released on summonses for the theft, while the third was found to have an active warrant for failure to appear on a failure to pay child support charge. That third suspect was arrested and held without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail. Hopefully the group will learn from this experience and make a fresh starch. |
