The Stafford County Sheriff's Office is responsible for the search and rescue missions in the county of Stafford.  These searches can involve both missing adults and children for a variety of reasons.  They can also include evidence searches in criminal cases.  While the missions are primarily inside the County of Stafford, we have been requested many times by other agencies in the Commonwealth to assist them in searches, including several high profile searches over the last ten years in Hanover County, Albemarle County and the Shenandoah National Park. The Search and Rescue team is comprised of both sworn law enforcement officers employed by the Sheriff and also a volunteer group of civilian members.  We also partner with the Virginia Department of Emergency Management (VDEM) if further assistance is needed.

The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office Volunteer Traffic Safety Unit (VTSU) provides a service to the Sheriff’s Office and the Community without promise, expectation, or receipt of compensation for services rendered. VTSU members will assist with certain calls for service, maintaining and assisting with the care of the Sheriff Office vehicles, and to assist with the overall mission of traffic safety.  They may also be tasked with other responsibilities set forth by the Sheriff.

The Stafford County Animal Shelter is always in need of new volunteers.  They have varying opportunities for anyone 18 years or older.  A background check is required.

The Administrative Services Division of the Sheriff's Office utilizes volunteers for data entry.  Volunteers file hard copies of criminal records or other confidential records, provide data entry of criminal records into the police information System software, proof and correct records previously entered into the system and assist the staff members with other clerical duties that do not involve direct contact with the public.
