Temporary repair work underway; permanent repair work to take place overnight

FREDERICKSBURG – A sinkhole has developed on Route 612 (Butler Road) at Cambridge Street in Stafford County. The eastbound lane and one westbound lane on Butler Road is closed to traffic in the vicinity of the Falmouth Intersection.

Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) crews are placing a steel plate over the damaged pavement so that the lane can be reopened to traffic in time for the evening rush hour. East and westbound motorists are sharing the westbound lanes. Flaggers are in place to direct traffic through the work zone.

Permanent repair work will take place tonight.

Butler Road will be closed to traffic while the permanent repairs are underway tonight. Motorists will be detoured around the work zone.
