Northbound traffic will shift to the right, and a third travel lane will be restored near I-95

FREDERICKSBURG – A traffic shift scheduled for tonight on northbound Route 17 in Stafford County has been postponed until Sunday, Oct. 19 due to weather.

On Sunday night, northbound Route 17 traffic will be shifted into new travel lanes on the right side of the highway.

Northbound Route 17 will be reduced to a single travel lane from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. The work zone will begin near the Interstate 95 overpass and continue through International Parkway.

Motorists should stay alert for new pavement markings, and should follow traffic direction from law enforcement officials.

Complete traffic stops of up to 5 minutes may be required intermittently during the traffic shift so workers can install new traffic signal equipment. New traffic signals will be activated at five intersections on Route 17: McLane Drive, Falls Run Parkway, Plantation Drive, Lichfield Boulevard, and Banks Ford Parkway.

As part of the traffic shift, a third travel lane will be restored between I-95 and Falls Run Drive to help traffic merge onto Route 17 northbound from the Interstate 95 off-ramps.
